Round 2 Of Going Away Celebrations

I couldn't post this yesterday as I had no chance to get on the Internet, as I had to revise for my driving theory, which at around 1pm today I Passed!

Anyways on Tuesday I went out for my last night out in my hometown, before my friends go to University. And it was a good night out! Only 2 of my friends could make it into town, but we had pre - club drinks before hand! I did make my friend lose a bet though, £10 it cost him! Oops.

We made a vow not to talk about leaving, or being separated, as that would be way to upsetting.

To be honest, it's not really hit me yet that we're all getting separated across the country. I mean me and my friends are very close. We spend practically every day together. So I can't imagine what it's going to be like not seeing them, for possibly months at a time. Oh God only 2 days till they leave! OK no, I will not think about it right now!

The Delights Of 3 Days Of Banking

Hold the phone! I'm about to give some advice! Haha.

I would really recommend doing this, if your starting University, or to be honest, in general.

Opening a second bank account.
Basically why I'd do this is because my student loan, tuition money and grants are going into my current account, there's going to be quite a bit in there. Now I have this obsession with Internet shopping... well who doesn't? There's brilliant bargains to be discovered, oh and don't get me started on EBay, although so far Ive refrained from signing up, for the sake of my wallet. Anywho, fraud is a risk with Internet shopping, so I don't want to compromise my student loan! That would be very bad! So I opened up another account which if I know I need (more like want) to buy something online, I can just top up my account or that item, and if it does get hacked, I'll only lose a small amount.
But here's a few thing's you'll need to take with you:
  • A statement from your other bank (Why? I think that's just nosey to be honest)
  • And the UCAS letter confirming your place on your course
  • Then of course the regular stuff like proof of ID, passport etc

Don't do a me. I first went on Friday, but didn't have my bank statement, so came back Saturday, but didn't have my UCAS letter, so had to go AGAIN today! Typical me! Reminds me of the Student laundrette moment... maybe I'll tell you that storey sometime!

Texting People In The Next Room And The Beginning Of Going Away

So there were 2 main things that happened yesterday relating to university:

  • Signed up for a mobile phone contract
  • The first going away party!

So the first thing was to change from pay as you go mobile.

Thank God for that!

The amount of money I spend each month on phone credit is well, lets say, out of my budget range. So finally my parents said I could switch to a monthly payment contract. So I joined Virgin Mobile's 30 day rolling contract. I would really recommend this one. I compared it to all the other major brands, and its the best by far. I get unlimited texts, 500 minutes and 200 Internet minutes for £15 a month.

Before going to university, if your on pay as you go, I would really recommend switching to a deal like this (unless you spend less than £15 a month) because I did this summer school/ taster thing a couple o moths back, where I stayed at Lancaster University for 3 and half Weeks, basically living as a student. And let me tell you, I spent way more credit than I do normally, as you text people you are living with rather than knocking on there door... "Bar at 9? "Pizza for tea?" "Criminology is sending me to sleep" etc.

So there's my little budgeting tip for you.

Because after having a few drinks, if someone challenges you do a push up contest, your going to accept!

And now for the going away party!

So last night my friend Katie held a going away party for me and our friends. She's not actually going University, so it was rather good of her! I was a little worried actually as to how it would go, as me and Katie had been fighting earlier in the week, basically over something stupid, but you know how it can get. Anyways I spent way too long getting ready for it as usual, was an hour late, and then realised that I'd bought the wrong SD card for my brand new camera! Oh dear...

But I did bring Vodka!

Because again, after drinking way too much, you think its cool to raid the kitchen, then get the giggles over various utensils...

Anyways, It was a fun filled house party, with some very funny drink related moments (see photos for examples)

And this is just the start of the going away celebrations, going to town on Tuesday for student night (cheep drinks all round!) and then a formal meal on Thursday with my friends.

I'm actually starting to realise that University is just round the corner!

The Beginning Of A Interesting Journey...

Hi.

So after quite a significant amount of my time tweaking the design, I'm finally writing my first post.

So what is this blog?
Well on the 27th of September I'm off to start life as a University student, at, wait for it.... Lancaster University! I know that was a toughie! Anyways I thought, why not do a blog, chronicling my journey, as knowing me, its going to be interesting experience! So I'll be blogging about starting university, any tips I pick up along the way, and basically my daily life as a student (The interesting bits of course, no one wants to know whether I had Coco Pops or Cheerios's for breakfast. Its Coco Pops just in case you really did want to know) It's just a bit of fun, not going to be up for literature of the year or anything.

So that leads me on to well, me! My names Laura, photo to the left, and to be honest, I just love pretty much being me (Woah, cheesy!). I'm always up for trying new experiences (always try something once and all that), I love to go out, and just have fun. I'm quite a sarcastic person, can be cocky, but always with a humour edge to it, I'm lovable really! Oh and I have the loudest laugh ever apparently.

So hope you stick around, and feel free to leave comment, in fact I would love it if you did. Just post a comment on the blog entry or send us an email at ThatLancasterStudent@hotmail.co.uk

Bye for now

x
